Does Bill Belichick know more about the NFL's Deflategate investigation than he's letting on?
The Patriots boss appeared to let it slip that he expects the report from league investigator Ted Wells to emerge in March during a Wednesday appearance on the "Late Show with David Letterman" honoring him for their recent Super Bowl win.
"We're going to bring you in to testify when we get the investigation next month," Belichick said when Letterman suggested the Colts had deflated a football on the sideline during the AFC Championship Game and then tried to pin it on New England.
Belichick's comment was significant because the NFL has not given a timetable for Wells to make the results of his investigation public. The league said last month that, "as we develop more information and are in a position to reach conclusions, we will share them publicly."
Belichick otherwise had little to say to Letterman about Deflategate, twice responding with a gruff "no" when the host said he was told the balls were under-inflated because of "horseplay."
Belichick did prove that he actually has a lighter side, though, saying he "should have gotten a college credit" for all his research on footballs and air pressure after the allegations were made.
"I never realized there were so many Patriots fans that were scientists, physicists and college professors," Belichick said jokingly.
