A Carnegie Deli manager was attacked by a homeless drifter Monday morning while trying to hail a cab outside the Port Authority Bus Terminal, police said.

José Robles, 53, who has worked at the landmark eatery for years, was punched in the back of the head by Bryant Sassony, 31, at about 5:45 a.m. on Eighth Avenue near West 42nd Street, according to PA police.

Robles fell to the pavement, got up and went into a nearby store to seek safety, but Sassony followed him, demanding his cellphone and continuing to pummel him, cops said.

PA police caught up with the alleged attacker at the scene and arrested him on charges of attempted robbery and assault, authorities said.

Robles was taken to Roosevelt Hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his face and elbow, officials said.

Sassony has an extensive arrest history for assault, battery, DUI and pot possession in Las Vegas and Delaware, sources said.
