US workers are getting their mojo back — and finding new and creative ways of telling their boss to take that job and shove it.
From the violent (tossing a brick through the office window with a resignation message written on it) to the tasty (baking a cake with your resignation written in the icing), leaving a job has never been more enjoyable, it seems, according to OfficeTeam, a staffing agency that compiled some of the more unusual methods workers have employed to leave their jobs.
"How you quit a position can leave a lasting impression, so make sure to exit on the best terms possible," said Robert Hosking, the agency's executive director.
Well, thank goodness some people just don't listen to common sense.
Here, in no particular order, are 10 inventive ways workers have recently told their boss they were moving on:
- One person made his wife call to say he was not coming back.
- A worker sent a text to his colleague and asked her to forward it to management.
- An employee's parents let the company know their son was resigning.
- Someone threw a brick through the office window with the words "I quit" written on it.
- One man left a sticky note on the boss' desk explaining he was quitting.
- One person sent an e-mail blast to all staff.
- Someone bragged to his colleagues that it was his last day — but failed to let the HR manager or his boss know.
- Another employee baked a cake with her resignation letter written on top.
- A marching band accompanied one guy in his announcement.
- A frustrated worker threw a cup of coffee and walked out.
