Off-duty cop severely beaten in supermarket parking lot

An off-duty NYPD officer's jaw and eye socket were broken on Monday when he was attacked in the parking lot of a Queens supermarket, cops said.

The Brooklyn officer was brutally beaten in the parking lot of the Pathmark supermarket at 134-40 Springfield Blvd. in St. Albans at around 2 p.m., according to law-enforcement sources.

He was shopping inside when he accidently bumped into a woman, the sources said.

As he was walking to his car, he was attacked from behind and pummeled by someone who police believe is connected to the woman.

The cop was taken to North Shore LIJ Hospital in stable condition.

Police were examining surveillance video to try to identify the suspect, who was still on the loose Monday night.
