A closed meeting about the Ebola virus and what to do if it spreads to New York City was held Thursday between Mayor de Blasio, Health Commissioner Mary Bassett and Office of Emergency Management Chief Joe Esposito.
Four different scenarios were discussed that dealt with situations involving people in the area who may display symptoms of the disease, Bassett and Esposito said after the meeting.
Bassett made it clear that Ebola is something people should be wary of, but not something they should fear while riding public transit.
"Ebola is spread by sick people, it's through contact with their bodily fluids," she said. "You don't get Ebola by walking down the street — it's not airborne, you don't get it by riding on the subway.
"So I have no concerns about the safety of our subway system."
