The Mexican president, along with the heads of General Motors and The Walt Disney Company, will be honored this month in Manhattan by a prestigious inter-faith coalition of business and religious leaders.
The Appeal of Conscience Foundation will present President Enrique Peña Nieto with its World Statesman Award during a black-tie gala on Sept. 23 in the Grand Ballroom at the Waldorf Astoria in Midtown.
General Motors CEO Mary Barra and Robert Iger, who holds the same position at Disney, will each receive the foundation's Appeal of Conscience Award.
The organization was founded by Rabbi Arthur Schneier to address religious freedom and human rights and to promote religious tolerance around the world.
The coalition of business, religious and political leaders aims to foster mutual understanding among various faiths and countries to help protect religious and other minorities.
Schneier, 84, is a Hungarian-American who has served for more than half a century as the senior rabbi of the city's renowned Park East Synagogue on the Upper East Side.
