NBA: Kobe won't 'waste time' on Dwight exit
Kobe Bryant is working hard to get back on the court and not wasting any time thinking about Dwight Howard. Bryant said his surgically repaired Achilles' tendon is "progressing faster than anybody expected," though he won't start shooting again until next month.
Bryant said he doesn't know why Howard left.
"You think once a guy decides to go someplace else I'm going to waste my time trying to figure out why that happened?" Bryant said.
The Warriors picked up the team option on Mark Jackson's original four-year, $8 million contract for the 2014-15 season. Though both sides still could work out a long-term extension this summer, exercising the option at least ensures Jackson won't enter the upcoming season with an expiring contract.
Executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson is leaving his position on Aug. 1, and Rod Thorn will return to the league office as president of basketball operations.
MLB: Rangers fall to O's, Darvish on DL
In Baltimore, Wei-Yin Chen returned from the disabled list to pitch seven innings of three-hit ball, and the Orioles got a three-run homer from Nolan Reimold in a 6-1 victory over the Rangers.
Texas placed right-hander Yu Darvish on the disabled list with a strained upper back. Darvish was scheduled to start tonight. His replacement probably will be Ross Wolf, though there was no formal announcement by the Rangers.
In Seattle, David Ortiz doubled in his first at-bat to become baseball's all-time leader in hits as a designated hitter with 1,689, surpassing Harold Baines. He picked up his 1,690th hit as a DH later an inning later, blasting a a two-run homer to lead the Red Sox to an 11-4 win over the Mariners.
Chad Gaudin, a Giants pitcher and former Yankee, was accused of touching a woman's breast at a Las Vegas hospital earlier this year and now faces a lewdness charge, according to The Las Vegas Review-Journal. His lawyer said his client was ill at the time.
Former Phillies catcher Darren Daulton was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, according to CSN Philadelphia. The news comes just more than a week after he had surgery to remove two tumors in his brain.
John Rocker, the disgraced former Braves reliever, said in a Cleveland radio interview that PED use in the major leagues made for a "better game."
"[Fans pay for tickets] to be entertained. They wanna see some clown throw a fastball 101 mph and some other guy hit it 500 feet. That's entertainment. You're paying to be entertained," Rocker said on 92.3 The Fan, a CBS affiliate.
NFL: Utecht wins arbitration against Bengals

Bruins goalie T uukka Rask signed an eight-year contract to stay with Boston. The Bruins say that the annual salary cap charge on Rask's contract is $7 million, but they didn't reveal the total value of the deal.

Mississippi guard Marshall Henderson was suspended indefinitely for multiple failed drug tests, according to CBS Sports.
