TAMPA — Chien-Ming Wang could have another stint with the Yankees.

The team invited the right-hander to work out for their scouts in Tampa in search of a minor league deal.

Wang pitched well for Chinese Taipei in the Word Baseball Classic and impressed the Yankees by hitting the low-90s as he attempts to revive his career.

"We have some vacancies in the rotation at [Triple-A] Scranton, so we're exploring all those options and major league depth," general manager Brian Cashman said yesterday. "He obviously had a great time while he was here [with the Yankees], so I think there's some interest on his part. If he was going to have to do a minor league deal somewhere, I think he would probably prefer it to be here."

Wang's agent, Alan Chang, said he is in contact with several teams and there is no timetable for him to sign. People within the organization said they believe Wang's signing is likely.

The 32-year-old was the Yankees' top starter until he suffered a foot injury in 2008 running the bases during an interleague game in Houston. After struggling mightily at the start of the 2009 season, Wang missed the next season and a half with a torn capsule in his shoulder. He pitched for the Nationals organization the past two seasons and had a 6.68 ERA over 10 appearances (five starts) last season

"He was a very good pitcher for the New York Yankees," manager Joe Girardi said. "It's unfortunate he's had some injuries that have cost him."

Robinson Cano is expected back in camp today after returning from the WBC, and Girardi said he could play tonight against the Twins.

CC Sabathia opted not to pitch against the Red Sox in yesterday's Grapefruit League game, instead throwing six innings against the Yankees' Triple-A Scranton team. The lefty said his fastball command was good in his six-inning, 92-pitch outing.

"I would much rather not have them see my stuff right now if we didn't have to," said Sabathia, who is scheduled to make another start Tuesday against the Astros.

Vidal Nuno continued his solid spring by tossing five scoreless innings in a 4-0 win over the Red Sox. … The Yankees and Red Sox will wear a ribbon on Opening Day at Yankee Stadium to honor the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
