The Mets added outfielder Andrew Brown, who will compete for a roster spot this spring, to their roster yesterday.
Brown, who played 46 games for the Rockies last season, signed a minor league contract with the Mets and will be invited to spring training, the club announced.
The 28-year-old Brown batted .232 with five homers and 11 RBIs in 112 at-bats last season for the Rockies. He played 11 games for the Cardinals in 2011.
Brown gives the Mets another right-handed bat in the outfield, after the team recently acquired Collin Cowgill in a trade with Oakland.
The Mets continue to monitor the free-agent market and haven't ruled out re-signing veteran Scott Hairston.
As it stands, the Mets will head into spring training with Lucas Duda, Mike Baxter, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Jordany Valdespin, Brown and Cowgill as outfield possibilities.
