An NYPD cop who led the charge into a barricaded Sheepshead Bay apartment in 2012 took the stand in the alleged shooter's attempted-murder trial Monday to give the first full description of his actions.

"The girlfriend walked slowly towards the door cradling her little guy," Detective Kenneth Ayala testified, saying that Nakwon Foxworth opened fire before his girlfriend and baby reached safety.

"As she was walking through the threshold, gunfire erupted. I heard the gunfire and through the window in my shield I saw the muzzle flash. Multiple shots — it was rapid fire," said Ayala, who was hit in the thigh and foot.

"With her being right at my side, it was my grave concern that she or the little guy would get hit."

Ayala described how he and his fellow cops charged directly toward the gunfire coming at them.

Three other cops were also shot and injured during the incident.

Defense attorney Damien Brown said during opening arguments that the cops shot first.
