It’s Good-ell to be King: NFL commish made $35M in 2013

Embattled NFL commissioner Roger Goodell continues to roll in the dough, as the league's tax returns showed he was paid $35 million in salary and bonus in 2013.

That figure actually marked a slight decline from 2012, when Goodell was paid $44.2 million in salary, bonus and deferred pension. But Goodell has cleaned up since forging a new labor agreement very favorable to the owners in 2011, collecting $120 million over the three years immediately following it.

Goodell's compensation for 2014, when he was embroiled in a series of controversies that prompted calls for his firing, will be decided by a compensation committee of owners later this spring.

Goodell definitely has been good for the owners' bottom line. The league had a record $10 billion in revenue in 2013 (up from $7 billion when he took over in 2006), and this year's audience of 114.4 million for the Super Bowl was the largest for any program in U.S. television history.
