New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd has become the latest victim in the massive Sony hacking scandal, thanks to newly revealed leaked e-mails suggesting she promised a sneak preview of a March column before it went to print.
Dowd was willing and eager to show former Times reporter Bernard Weinraub a draft of a column on Weinraub's wife, Sony Pictures co-chair Amy Pascal, Buzzfeed.com revealed Friday.
The column wound up being a big, sloppy kiss to Pascal, whom Dowd lauds as a tireless advocate against Hollywood's unequal treatment of women.
"I'M NOT TALKING TO HER IF SHE IS GOING TO SLAM ME. PLEASE FIND OUT," Pascal e-mailed her husband.
"You can't tell single person that I'm seeing the column before its printed … its not done," Weinraub tells his wife in one e-mail.
"I would make sure you look great and we'd check it all and do it properly," Dowd promised Pascal in another e-mail.
"Maureen has never sent me a column," Weinraub insisted Friday in an interview with The New York Times public editor.
"I never showed Bernie the column in advance or promised to show it," Dowd said in a statement Friday.
