The city won't remove the tire swing that killed a doting uncle at an East Village playground — or any of the 53 other tire swings in 33 city parks, officials said Wednesday.
"We do not plan to remove the swings at present. A close inspection yesterday found the swing to be in safe working order," a Parks Department spokesman said.
But parents called the rock-hard plastic-and- steel swing (pictured) in Tompkins Square Park dangerous. Aleim Perkins, 39, who was baby-sitting his 6-year-old niece, was killed Monday when he pushed the swing hard and it flew back and hit him in the face.
"If the swing did that to an adult, I can't imagine what it could do to a baby," said a mom pushing her 2-year-old son on a tire swing at the same park. Jamie Scott, 46, an East Village dad at the park added, "It's a horrible thing . . . But I would hate for the tire swing to go the way of the see-saw."
