A 5-year-old boy and his 7-year-old sister drowned yesterday after they climbed over a backyard fence and got into a neighbor's pool on Long Island, police said.
The lifeless bodies of Ralph and Sharon Knowles were discovered at around 4 p.m., two hours after they went missing from their Central Islip home.
The mom "was screaming . . . 'My kids, they found them in the pool!' " said a neighbor, Roberto Diaz.
Another neighbor, German Fuentes, said he saw the kids playing in their own yard at around 1 p.m.
"Then, around 2, a boy, maybe 10 years old, knocks on my door. He said, 'I'm looking for two kids, have you seen them?' " Fuentes said.
Cops received a call at around 3:30 p.m. from the children's mother, Tia Knowles, 32.
A responding officer "noticed what he thought was a shoe floating in a neighbor's backyard pool,'' said Suffolk County Police Detective Sgt. Edward Fandrey.
The cop and another officer found the bodies of the children, who were fully clothed.
The pool owner was cited for improper fencing.
"The exposed side of the stockade fence was facing out instead of the smooth side," said Fandrey, explaining that that made it easier to climb.
