This week’s couple: Just like old friends

There are a lot of ways to end up in the friend zone: One surefire trick is to resemble someone a potential mate already knows.

That was the case with Marjorie, 30, and Michael, 26. When they met up at the Cajun restaurant Bo's in the Flatiron, he reminded Marjorie of an old roommate, a fact that killed any possibility of romance for her.

But just because they didn't have a love connection didn't mean there wasn't any sort of connection. Read on…

She said

Upon meeting Michael, I noticed he actually looked a bit like an old roommate of mine, which was kind of funny. But, it also meant I wasn't attracted to him.

The conversation was pretty easy. We talked a lot about what we both do for work and stuff like that. He was very nice and easy to talk to. It felt more like having dinner with a friend than a date.

Bo's restaurant was very cute, and the staff was friendly. We shared some apps, but ordered separate entrees. Michael had the fried chicken, and I had scallops. The food was good but rich — lots of fried and buttered stuff.

At the end of the date, we did exchange numbers. We may hang out again but it won't be romantically. He was a supernice guy, but it was definitely platonic.

He said

When I spotted Marjorie, I thought she was very cute.

The two of us hit it off pretty easily. We have a lot in common, and laugh at the same things, like the show "Bob's Burgers" on Fox. I also liked her approach to ordering at Bo's, which was to get a bunch of items to share.

For appetizers, we had beignets, alligator and buffalo mozzarella; everything was really tasty.

We got along really well, had a really great time, and have a lot of mutual interests, but our connection was definitely more friendly than romantic.

We both acknowledged that as we exchanged numbers. I'm not one to think that every date needs to end in a romantic connection, and I'm really glad to have met a really cool person. We have already made plans to hang out again.
