Public funeral planned in New York City for Mario Cuomo

Former Gov. Mario Cuomo will be laid to rest after a public funeral in Manhattan on Tuesday, a family spokesman said.

There will be a wake for the three-term New York governor on Monday afternoon and evening on the Upper East Side.

Cuomo's wake will be Monday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home on Madison Avenue at East 82nd Street.

His public funeral will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Church on Park Avenue at East 84th Street Tuesday. It begins at 11 a.m. and is "open to family and friends," according to a spokesman.

The 82-year-old Cuomo died on New Year's Day, just hours after his son, Andrew, delivered his second inaugural speech as governor of New York.

The elder Cuomo, the state's 52nd governor, served from 1982 to 1994.
