Darrelle Revis rarely is one to gush about an opposing receiver, but arguably the best cornerback in the NFL made an exception for Steve Smith this week.
Revis called the ageless Smith "electrifying" as the two stars prepared for their headliner of an individual matchup Saturday when Revis' Patriots play host to Smith's Ravens in an AFC divisional playoff.
"His age is what it is on paper, but he's still electrifying," Revis said of the 35-year-old Smith. "He's strong, he's physical, he's fast. He's very crafty. He's all you want in a receiver. He's one of the best in the league. He's still making big plays. I've covered him before, we had some great battles. The guy is an impact player, he's a big-time player."
Smith was so stunned by Revis' praise he didn't even bother to warn Revis to "ice up, son" like he famously did Revis' New England predecessor, Aqib Talib last season.
Smith thanked Revis on Thursday, then complimented him right back while taking yet another dig at Talib, who is now with the Broncos.
"I just expect [the matchup with Revis] to be a chess match, and I think going against the other guy was more like checkers," Smith said.
