The Department of Education's protocols for treating staffers and students with Ebola-like symptoms leaves too much room for fatal error, parents warned on Thursday.
A memo distributed this week says that students and staff who returned from West Africa more than 21 days ago "are not at risk" — but doesn't explicitly account for those living with relatives who may have traveled more recently, Mona Davids of the NYC Parents Union pointed out.
"It's almost bordering on the line of being incompetent and negligent," she told The Post. "It does not have to be a child who just got off the plane — families go back and forth."
Davids added that she would like to see more outreach to parents who might not know how to evaluate suspicious symptoms.
Sally Guttmacher, a professor of health studies at New York University, cautioned that relatives are a concern only if they're symptomatic and, therefore, capable of transmitting the virus.
"This looks like a good letter and covers all the bases," she said.
But Rossi A. Hassad, an epidemiologist and professor at Mercy College, said the memo "is not complete and could have been written more effectively."
