The rich have a new social toy to "like."
A former conductor of the Minneapolis Philharmonic Orchestra has started a new social network that has a $9,000 buy-in — so the rich won't have to interact with poorer people online.
Netropolitan.club, a plain-screened social network that relies on old-school message boards, costs $6,000 to join, plus another $3,000 a year for membership.
"Obviously not everyone can afford that, and that's partly the point," James Touchi-Peters, the Web site's founder, told The Post.
"The point is that it's supposed to be a private and secure environment," he added.
People can follow other Netropolitans on Twitter, rather than "friend" people on Facebook.
One of the main reasons for creating the social network, Touchi-Peters said, was to have a place online that protected user data and didn't flood people with ads.
But that goal might be harder to accomplish.
"We can't guarantee security — that's impossible. But we're going to every possible length to keep your privacy secure."
"The way I look at this," Touchi-Peters said, "I am simply providing a service to a section of the public that demands that."
