An ex-Brooklyn prosecutor fired last year by former DA Charles Hynes went into the state Attorney General's Office Wednesday to talk about the probe into her former boss' financial and political dealings, sources told the Post.
By giving DA e-mails to officials, Barbara Burke, 51, may have sparked the Department of Investigation report that accuses Hynes of wrongdoing, said a source with knowledge of the investigation.
"She was talking about the DOI investigation," said the source. "She was there for a couple of hours today."
An AG spokesman declined to comment. It was not clear what Burke — who worked in the office's asset-forfeiture group — told officials. Attorney Mark Bederow, who has represented her, declined to comment.
Burke was fired by the DA's Office last November because Hynes believed she forged e-mails that made him and his pals look racist and leaked them to BuzzFeed.
The DA then requested that a special prosecutor go after Burke for allegedly forging the e-mails but one was never appointed, according to sources.
A DOI report released last week found that Hynes used public money to pay political consultant Mortimer Matz and that Hynes used office staff to work on his losing campaign against new DA Ken Thompson.
The report said the $1.1 million Hynes paid Matz could lead to larceny charges for Hynes. The DOI referred its findings to the AG's Office, which has the power to bring criminal charges.
Hynes' lawyer said his client had done nothing wrong.
"He hired Morty to do public relations for the office," said the lawyer, Robert Hill Schwartz.
