Two new rosé wines by New Yorkers just launched for summer.
In the Hamptons, Wolffer Estate Vineyards in Sagaponack unveiled its first new rosé in six years (its gold-label Wolffer rosé launched in 1994) and the first since Christian Wolffer, the founder of the vineyard, passed away in 2009.
His daughter Joey Wolffer and her brother Marc co-purchased the winery in 2013 and are making changes. The new rosé, called Summer in a Bottle, is inspired by what winemakers say was an epic 2013 vintage for Long Island.
The wine will sell for $24, and only 1,530 cases were produced.
The second rosé, sourced from Rioja, Spain, comes from Ben Watts, the fashion photographer and brother of Naomi, who launched his namesake rosé Watts Up last year. Watts teamed up with Wine Awesomeness, an online wine retailer based in Charleston SC.
This year he'll produce 2,000 cases of the wine, which sells for $18 to $22 a bottle online. Restaurants sell it for $45 to $55 a bottle; it will be served at restaurants including Surf Lodge.
