Talk about a midlife crisis.
Adam Sender, 45, who announced last month he is closing his Exis Capital Management fund, plans to auction off 400 pieces from his contemporary art collection he has been amassing since 1998.
Sender — a former SAC Capital fund manager — has seen assets at his 16-year-old firm fall from a high of more than $3 billion to just $75 million at the end of 2013, according to a fund document, as his strategy of trading on volatility backfired.
Among the works being offered are pieces by Richard Prince, Cindy Sherman and Dan Flavin. The sale will proceed over the course of 18 months, according to Sotheby's, which will start the sale in May.
Besides ending the hedge fund and selling the world-class art collection, Sender filed for divorce from his wife, Lenore, after 11 years.
