A Queens bar called Dutch Kills is suing another watering hole for calling itself Dutch Kills Centraal, saying in a Brooklyn federal lawsuit filed Thursday, it has ripped off its name.
In a lawsuit filed in Brooklyn federal court, Dutch Kills owner Richard Boccato says he opened his retro bar on Jackson Avenue in Long Island City's Dutch Kills section in 2009. The suit accuses the newer bar, on 29th Street in the same neighborhood, of usurping his name and business model.
Boccato declined to comment, but Dominic Stiller, a co-owner of Dutch Kills Centraal, said his bar only took the name of the area, which everyone has a right to.
"Dutch Kills has been here for 400 years," he said.
