NYC finally thawing out with warmer temps on the way

The cold snap that gripped New York really got a hold of this Saab, which was frozen stuck in several inches of ice Wednesday on East 12th Street between avenues B and C.

Fortunately, warmer days are ahead for chilled New Yorkers.

The mercury is expected to hit a balmy 32 degrees on Thursday, and 40 degrees on Friday, before topping out with a practical heat wave on Saturday of 54 degrees.

Con Ed recorded winter records for gas and electrical use on Tuesday. That day's gas use was measured at 1,113,254 dekatherms, topping the record set a week ago Friday of 1,016,292 dekatherms.

There were 185,572 megawatt hours of electricity sent out by Con Ed on Tuesday, breaking the previous high of 183,042 megawatt hours on Jan. 27, 2005.
