Ben Bernanke mulls job at think tank

Outgoing Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke might be headed to a role at the Brookings Institution after his term ends Jan. 31, according to a report.

Brookings, a Washington think tank, has been in talks with Bernanke, people familiar with the discussions told The Wall Street Journal.

Bernanke was the featured speaker at a Brookings-sponsored event last week, and his former deputy, Donald Kohn, has been a senior fellow at Brookings since leaving the Federal Reserve in 2010.

In addition, Brookings recently established the Hutchins Center on monetary and fiscal policy with $10 million in funding from Glenn Hutchins, a founder of the investment fund Silver Lake Partners.

Hutchins also is a director on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Bernanke said in November at the National Economists Club annual dinner that he plans to write books and give speeches after he leaves the Fed. He also has said he plans to remain in Washington.

It's unlikely any announcement about such a move would be made before Bernanke's term ends, the report said.

A spokeswoman for the Fed declined to comment to the Wall Street Journal. A spokeswoman from Brookings didn't respond to its requests for comment either.
