Baby shot dead

A 16-month-old boy was fatally shot in the head last night by a killer who had been gunning for his dad, a police source said.

Little Antiq Hennis was struck down in front of his horrified parents, who were pushing him along a Brooklyn street in his stroller.

He died at Brookdale Hospital at 8:50 p.m. about an hour after the gunman opened fire at Bristol Street and Livonia Avenue in Brownsville.

"I heard three to four shots," said a witness, Gina Gamboa, 23. "I saw a man with a stroller screaming, 'My baby got shot! My baby got shot.'

"He was going crazy.''

Police believe the bullet — which struck Antiq in the left side of his skull — had been meant for his father, Anthony Hennis, who has a record of more than 20 arrests in New York and Pennsylvania.

They include busts for narcotics, weapons possession, assault and car theft, according to the source.

Gamboa said that after the smoke cleared, she could see the toddler lying in his stroller.

"The baby's chest was moving, but his head was tilted to the side," she said. "There was blood all over the stroller.''

The little boy had been "vibrant and full of energy," said the victim's distraught uncle, Chris Dovsen.

"He was just starting to learn how to walk. He was just getting the hang of it. And now this happened.

"Just yesterday he was playing with a basketball."

The dad, Dovsen said, has been a "changed man'' since becoming a father.

Bishop Willie Billips, of the nearby Church of Faith, Hope and Charity, drove the mom, Cherise Miller, and dad to Brookdale Hospital to identify their only child. "It was horrible," Billips said.

"I'm furious at what happened. I'm outraged at the murder of a 1-year-old baby. I'm sick of what's happening in this neighborhood.''

Police were still hunting for the gunman early this morning.
