Pittsburgh took Bell 42nd overall in the April draft, hoping he could replace Rashard Mendenhall, who left in free agency.

Bears linebacker Jonathan Bostic energized his team with a big hit last week. Turns out, it cost him.

A person familiar with the situation said Bostic was fined $21,000 for the hit during last week's preseason game against San Diego.

The Cowboys signed linebacker Sean Lee to a six-year extension which could keep him with Dallas through 2019, according to ESPN.

NBA: Paul elected NBPA president

Clippers star Chris Paul was elected president of the NBA Players' Association, replacing Derek Fisher.

The vote by NBA player representatives came six months after the union fired Billy Hunter as executive director, a position that remains vacant. Hunter countered with a wrongful-termination lawsuit in May, accusing Fisher of conspiring with NBA officials during the 2011 lockout.

Allen Iverson, who hasn't played in the league since February 2010, will announce his retirement from the NBA this week, according to SlamOnline.com.
