NFL: Apologetic Cooper returns to Eagles camp

Wide receiver Riley Cooper returned to the Eagles yesterday after a four-day excused absence to undergo sensitivity training after he was caught on film yelling a racial slur before a Kenny Chesney concert.

"It's great to be back doing what I love to do, play football," Cooper said. "I realize how many people I hurt, how many families I hurt, how many kids I hurt. It's going to be tough. I'm going to live with this every day the rest of my life. It's one of those things you can't let affect your play on the field."

The injury hits just keep on coming for the Packers. Wide receiver Jordy Nelson will miss the rest of training camp after undergoing a procedure on one of his knees.

MLB: Magglio to run for mayor of Venezuela town

Magglio Ordonez, a six-time All-Star with the White Sox and Tigers, will run for mayor of a Venezuelan oil town representing the socialist party of the late President Hugo Chavez, according to Bloomberg.

In Houston, Jacoby Ellsbury homered twice and Jonny Gomes added a three-run shot and the Red Sox rallied from a five-run deficit for a 15-10 win over the Astros.

ETC: Burr, 16-year vet, dead at 47 after fall

Shawn Burr, who played 16 years in the NHL, mostly with the Red Wings, died Monday. He was 47.

Dave Goetze, a friend of Burr's, said Burr was making progress in a fight against leukemia, but he died from brain trauma after a fall at his Detroit-area home.

Forward Michael Beasley has been arrested by police in Scottsdale, Ariz., after they found what they believe to be marijuana in his car.
