Terrorists yesterday staged a daylight ambush on two police minibuses in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, forcing the off-duty officers to the pavement and killing 25 of them execution-style, said authorities.
Photos purportedly taken after the attack showed victims, who were not in uniform, lying in the street with their hands tied behind them.
At least two others were wounded when Muslim gunmen opened fire on the buses as the military convoy approached the border town of Rafah.
The brutal killings stoked fears that the strategic desert region bordering Israel and the Gaza Strip will be engulfed by the violence gripping Cairo.

The attack came a day after 37 Islamist activists died in government custody.
Later yesterday, Egyptian authorities said they had arrested the supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, accused of inciting violence.
Mohammed Badie, 70, was picked up near Rabaa al-Adawiya Square, where more than 200 supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi were killed last week as police cleared their protest camp.
