NBC video still

"Saturday Night Live" took aim at politicans' gun control efforts on this weekend's episode.

So that's what it will take to get a gun ...

This week's episode of "Saturday Night Live" ridiculed US politicians' efforts at gun control reform, outlining ridiculous suggestions for prospective background checks.

"If our bill passes, no individual can purchase a handgun from a private dealer without being asked, 'Are you a good person?' as well as the follow-up question, 'Seriously, are you?'" Senator Pat Toomey (Bill Hader) explained.

"We're also hoping to limit the amount of ammunition you can carry in magazines," Senator Joe Manchin (Jason Sudeikis) said. "We did not do that."

The mock compromise does include the ban of all AK-47s ... from vending machines.

"And the Papa John's promotion 'buy two medium pizzas, get a free gun' has been completely outlawed," Toomey said.

The episode achieved its biggest laughs during Weekend Update, with the SNL crew poking fun at Brad Paisley and LL Cool J's tone-deaf "Accidental Racist" song, a song that achieves accidental humor and cringes with lyrics such as "If you don't judge my gold chains/I'll forget the iron chains."

Paisley (Sudeikis, donning a mustache and cowboy hat) defended the song, saying that it's all about substance. Or something.

"What I wanted to do was show folks the gritty racial reality of a man at Starbucks talking to his barista," Paisley said.

"And I wanted to tell the story of rapper who had the get his name out there because his album's about to drop," LL (Kenan Thompson) said.

LL Cool J admitted that the song wasn't any good - "musically or lyrically" - and then grew confused when confronted with his lyrics.

The SNL crew stuck to the music theme with a documentary-style video about punk rocker Ian Rubbish, a clip that transformed into a tribute for former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who died earlier in the week.

Rubbish (Fred Armisen) hated the bus driver, the queen, even the police, but he had a soft spot for Thatcher, singing "You're a very special lady" and "Sweet Iron Lady/I wanna kiss your iron face."

Host Vince Vaughn brought his usual, "Old School"-style energy to the role, cajoling audience members – and even throwing them out - in his monologue.

"I love your energy, and that's exactly what we're going to need tonight," he told the crowd. "You are the fuel for the rocket ship which is Saturday Night Live."

Musical guest Miguel shined with his falsetto, creating "wow" moments underneath the scurrying spotlights, a transcendent performance for an emerging musical star.
