MLB: Schilling sock for sale

Curt Schilling is selling the blood-stained sock he wore during the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees. Texas-based Heritage Auctions said online bidding begins around Feb. 4 with live bidding set for Feb. 23. The sock is expected to fetch at least $100,000.

Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and the Red Sox agreed to a $4.5 million, one-year contract, a raise of $2 million. The team also agreed to shorten its deal with catcher Mike Napoli to a one-year contract worth $5 million. ... Matt Garza and the Cubs agreed to a $10.25 million, one-year contract.

TENNIS: Djokovic advances

Defending champion Novak Djokovic reached the fourth round of the Australian Open today with a 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 win over Czech Radek Stepanek. Agnieszka Radwanska, the women's No. 4 seed, won her 12th match in a row with a 6-3, 6-1 victory today over Britain's Heather Watson.

Other notable winners included No. 5 Angelique Kerber, who celebrated her 25th birthday with a 6-2, 7-5 win over American teenager Madison Keys, and No. 6 Li Na.

MLS: Red Bulls' draft pick

The Red Bulls, having traded away their No. 1 draft pick to Portland last year, selected Georgetown midfielder Ian Christianson in the second round (No. 22 overall) of the MLS SuperDraft in Indianapolis. Louisville defender Andrew Farrell was selected by New England with the top pick.

OBIT: Fred Talbot, 71

Fred Talbot, a former Yankees pitcher who was a prominent character in Jim Bouton's book "Ball Four,'' died Jan. 11 in Falls Church, Va. He was 71.

ETC.: Leaf sent to prison

Ryan Leaf was moved from a drug treatment center to the Montana State Prison for threatening a staff member and violating his treatment plan. The former NFL quarterback was charged last spring with breaking into two houses and stealing prescription painkillers.

A review of the NBA's players' association found that executive director Billy Hunter did nothing illegal with union funds, but enough wrong that players should consider whether he should remain in his position.

Jamal Crawford had 22 points as the Clippers beat the Timberwolves 90-77.
