A gun-toting firebug snatched his two children from their mom in The Bronx yesterday, then carjacked a stranger's wheels to escape, authorities said.
An Amber Alert was issued before the missing kids were found alone and unharmed in the stolen vehicle about seven hours later, according to law-enforcement sources.
Fitz Edwards, 29, got into an argument with the mother of his children and allegedly fired one shot at her.
She was not hit, and he fled from her fifth-floor apartment on Barker Avenue near Laconia Avenue in the Bronxwood section just before 5 a.m.

"I heard a man's voice yelling. I could make out 'I'm goin' kill you!' " said neighbor Felo Gonder. "Then I heard a gunshot as the door burst open. I saw the woman running down the stairs."
Another neighbor, Rick Echevaria, 34, who lives on the first floor, saw the terrified mom sprinting out of the building with no shoes.
"I was looking out the peep hole I saw a woman running down the stairs trough the lobby," Echevaria said. "She was barefoot and looked like she was in a panic and looked scared.
"She ran so fast, she fell down and then scrambled outside.
"A couple minutes later, I saw a man in the lobby yelling at a little boy and girl, 'Run! Run! Come on! Come on!' " Echevaria said.
The boy, Nahzir Edwards, 5, and girl, Mlyliah Edwards 2, were bother in diapers.
"The boy and girl didn't have a coat or shoes on, I thought that was really strange," Echevaria said
Firefighters arrived minutes later to put out a blaze in the woman's apartment that officials believe had been set by Edwards.
After leaving the building, Edwards walked three blocks along Bronx Park East before allegedly confronting the driver of a 2005 gray Honda Accord and stealing the vehicle.
The car, with the kids inside, was found near 128th Street and Park Avenue in Harlem at around noon. Edwards was gone.
Edwards has an extensive arrest record, having been busted 10 times in the past 12 years, according to law-enforcement sources.
The past arrests include for possession of a controlled substance, weapons possession, pot possession, theft of services and obstruction of governmental administration.
Edwards had once lived with the woman before she kicked him out and got an order of protection against him, police and neighbors said.
Despite the court order, neighbors said Edwards was often at the building, visiting the woman and their kids.
